Mehdi Dahkan (b. 1998, Tangier) is a Moroccan self-taught choreographer and dancer whose work interrogates socially constructed behaviors and ideologies within the contemporary Maghreb social landscape. He currently lives and works between Morocco and France.
Mehdi’s journey into dance began at a young age through breakdance, parkour, and other urban practices. At 12, he joined the breakdance group 99flow, where he gained extensive stage experience at both national and international levels. His curiosity for diverse styles led him to explore Bollywood and eventually contemporary dance. As a performer, Mehdi has collaborated with numerous dance companies and choreographers across Morocco and Europe, including Sylvain Groud (Ballet du Nord), Khalid Benghrib (Cie 2k.far), Guy Weizman and Roni Haver (Club Guy & Roni), Cristina Santucci (Cie A-corpo), Emmanuel Milan (Cie Nowayback), Wajdi Gagui, and Ahlam El Morsli (Cie Col’Jam).
In 2019, Mehdi founded Jil Z, initiating his choreographic research. His practice draws from the interplay of the diverse aesthetics of his multidisciplinary background. Since then, he has created several works, including MA’KAN (2019), BNI MAKADA (2021), ONLY 14 (2023), and SUBJECT TO (2024). Mehdi’s creations have been presented at prestigious venues and festivals, such as Charleroi Danse (Belgium), Belfast Arts Festival (Ireland), Museum of Monologues (Istanbul), MMAG Foundation (Jordan), Frankfurt Lab (Germany), FIAC Festival (Brazil), and SummerWorks Performance Festival (Toronto), among others.
المهدي دهقان (مواليد 1998، طنجة) هو مصمم رقصات وراقص مغربي، يستجوب في عمله السلوكيات والأيديولوجيات المبنية اجتماعياً في المحيط الاجتماعي المغاربي المعاصر. يعيش ويعمل المهدي حالياً بين المغرب وفرنسا. بدأت مسيرة المهدي في الرقص في سن مبكرة من خلال رقص البريك دانس والباركور وغيرها من الممارسات الحضرية. انضم في سن مبكّر إلى فرقة البريك دانس 99، حيث اكتسب خبرة واسعة على المسرح على الصعيد الوطني والدولي. قاده فضوله تجاه الأساليب المتنوعة إلى استكشاف رقص بوليوود ثم الرقص المعاصر. كمؤدٍ، عمل مهدي مع العديد من فرق الرقص ومصممي الرقصات في المغرب وأوروبا، قبل أن يأسس فرقة جيل زد في عام 2019 ليبدأ أبحاثه الشخصية في مجال الرقص. يستمد عمله من التفاعل بين الجماليات المتنوعة لخلفيته متعددة التخصصات. منذ ذلك الحين، ابتكر العديد من الأعمال، بما في ذلك ”مكان“ (2019)، و“ بني مكادة ‘ (2021)، و‘ فقط 14 ‘ (2023)، و‘ خضوع “ (2024).
