Who are we?

The Jil Z company, formerly known as “Generation Z” was founded in Tangier, Morocco in 2019 by Mehdi Dahkan.
Its objective is to promote artistic culture and choreographic creation with as primary inspiration the social issues of Moroccan, Arab, and African youth. It then questions the body and its politics by integrating urban and contemporary practices, bringing the street to the stage, and the stage to the street.
The Cie Jil Z was created to respond to the lack of choreographic and performing arts initiatives in the northern region of Morocco. Its primary aim is to offer more opportunities to the new generation. Since its creation, the company has worked exclusively with young dancers aged between 17 and 25. Jil Z is also actively involved in training programs such as “Urban to Contemporary” and the “Moutalat” choreographic incubator. Their most recent project is Morocco’s first platform for amateur creation, the “Tangier in Progress Festival”.

La compagnie Jil Z, anciennement connue sous le nom de “Génération Z” a été fondée à Tanger, au Maroc, en 2019 par Mehdi Dahkan.
Elle à pour dessein de promouvoir la culture artistique et la création chorégraphique avec comme inspiration première les questionnements sociaux qui entourent la jeunesse marocaine, arabe et africaine. Elle interroge alors le corps et ses politiques en intégrant des pratiques urbaines et contemporaines, amenant la rue à la scène, et la scène à la rue.
La compagnie Jil Z a été créée pour répondre au manque d’initiatives chorégraphiques et d’arts de la scène dans la région nord du Maroc. Son objectif premier est d’offrir plus d’opportunités à la nouvelle génération. Depuis sa création, la compagnie travaille exclusivement avec des jeunes danseurs âgés de 17 à 25 ans. Jil Z est également activement impliquée dans des programmes de formation tels que “Urban to Contemporary” et l’incubateur chorégraphique “Moutalat”. Leur projet le plus récent est la première plateforme de création amateur au Maroc, le “Tangier in Progress Festival”.
